Grounding The Body & The Healing Benefits Of Earthing

Posted by on

Grounding is the practice of connecting to the planet's energy field by standing barefoot on the earth, grass or sand.

It's a way to bring yourself back into balance by rebalancing your body's bioelectrical system. The idea behind it is that our bodies are electrical beings and we are constantly being bombarded with electromagnetic radiation from our phones, computers and other devices.

It's a practice that can help you feel more balanced and centered.

Many people are living with daily pain, constant stress, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. They feel out-of-sorts--not centered, strong, or solid. Doctors often can’t find the cause and resort to prescribing medications that produce side effects like fatigue, poor mood, gastro-intestinal upset, and headaches.

I have seen several clients with gut issues, mental fogginess, in ability to sleep well, feelings of being lethargic or in the "burnout" syndrome.

We are seeing a huge increase in people suffering from autoimmune diseases and many other illnesses such as:

  • Lupus
  • Inflammatory bowel disorders
  • Rheumatoid arthritis.
I believe and it is proven that mediation, yoga and breath work are beneficial to the body and help to calm the system, the real heart of the issue I see is that we are completely disconnected from the earth.

While the research on grounding for your health and well-being is relatively new, it is something that was understood in past societies, especially the indigenous groups, whom went barefoot or wore  footwear made from hides that allowed the energy from the Earth to rise up into their bodies.

Here’s the bottom line: we have lost our electrical roots, so to speak. We are  disconnected from the earth, and this disconnection may be a seriously overlooked as a cause of human pain and discomfort and the steeply rising incidence of chronic illness worldwide.

However, you do have the ability to reconnect, weather and schedule permitting, go barefoot for a half-hour or so outside, sit, stand, or walk on soil, grass, sand, or concrete. These are all conductive surfaces from which your body can draw the Earth’s energy. Wood, asphalt, and vinyl are not conductive.

Ideally, you want to sustain doing the Earthing/Grounding practice and incorporate this healing energy into your daily routine.

Here are a few of the benefits that doing this practice as often as possible will bring to your life:

  • Improving ones sleep
  • Improving circulation
  • Strenghtening the immune system
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Helps with mental clarity & focus
  • Decreases depression
  • Increases ones energy
  • Reduces depression

There are also some products you can use if you are not able due to weather or your schedule to do the practice outside. The essential oils Vetiver and Cedarwood are two of the best oils to use to really ground the body and help you get back into the body if you are feeling very disconnected.

You can also do root chakra meditations and doing rooting visualisations along with the yoga pose Tree pose these are all great ways to address grounding and reconnecting to our root connection with the earth.

In closing, the message is, we need to remember where we are electrically recharged, burn out is really energetic depletion so reconnect with Patchamama, try some of these other techniques and unplug, I know your body, mind and soul will thank you.
